Today started with a bus trip to Ben Tre and a boat ride to an island in the Mekong River we then got in three small vehicle to ride to the middle of the island to see a broom factory.
We travelled further inland to visit a local family to try some fruit and see the villages and the biggest pig I have ever seen! The locals were celebrating the anniversary of a death and this is a joyful occasion so that the ancestor can enter heaven.
We then walked back to the river and boarded some flat boats for a paddle.
After arriving back at our boat the students tried their hand at net fishing and luckily we didn't have to rely on them catching our lunch!
We then travelled to what has to be one of the most remote restaurants for lunch and a spot of pole fishing. Scott was the only student to catch a fish unfortunately the line broke and he lost the fish. Top effort. While we were still eating our tour guides an elephant ear fish so we could see what they looked like.
In the afternoon we travelled to the coconut candy factory to see how candy was made. The candy wrappers were amazing with the speed they can wrap and package the candy.
Two hours later, in the air-conditioned bus, we all had a rest on our final leg to Can Tho. We are staying at the Asia Hotel for tonight, dinner was at a restaurant on the Mekong a River followed by an hour of shopping at the night markets. Tshirts sell for $10, silk scarves $7.50 and the girls got long heram pants for $15 for 2. They are becoming quite good bargainers.
